wii game system, does anyone here have one?
Is it good exercise for lazy people who usually just sit on the couch? My lazy mother wants one but they are not cheap and I think if she is not motivated to work out already then why should this be different. I'm a little annoyed because she's asking me to help her to buy one and I have my own family too take care of already.

- No, the Wii is not a good exercise program. It's more active than a system with a normal controller, but you still don't have to get up off the couch. A good game for exercise is Dance Dance Revolution, which you could play on a used older gaming system like the Xbox or the PS2. Work out videos are much cheaper and do the same thing, maybe your mother should get one of those. Don't give her money for a video game.
- Some of the sports games are exercise, but my kids and I sit on the couch and play most of the games. Most of the movements in many games are just circular with the wrist or up and down or side to side.....just more reason to be a couch potato, I think!
- Well, I think that if she really needs to get off of the couch, the wii is not the way to do it. It's not a work out regimen by any means. It's a lot of fun, and is better than playing video games on the couch. I might suggest a woman's gym or finding a friend to walk with a few times a week. I love my wii, but I certainly wouldn't use it as an excuse to be "not lazy"
- Wii sports is a pretty good workout, (boxing gets you tired after a while) but it might get boring after a while. I suggest just working out if you are going to buy a game system just to work out with. It wasn't MADE for fitness, y'know.
- Only if it's wii boxing!
- This site can e-mail you wii points numbers for free, and its a LOT better than the site listed above: http://www.prizerebel.com/index.php?r=12347 No credit card or mailing address is necessary! This way, its 100% safe! All you do is sign up, then fill out surveys for "points" used to get free things! Wii points are only 22 points and should only take about an hour or two to get. If you're interested, follow these guidelines: 1. Create another e-mail address because you'll get junk mail. 2. Read the descriptioin before doing an offer, so you know exactly what you need to do in order to get points 3. Delete cookies between every offer to increase chances of getting credited for completed offers. 4. Remember that even though most offers will give you points instantly after finishing the offer, some will take up to a day to finish pending even if it doesn't say so. So if you don't get points for an offer, never give up. Just go on to the next offer.
- u definetly dont get exercise. u just move your arms but no sweating or anything physical unless u weigh over 400 pounds. and it isnt fun when playing alone, only with 4 ppl might i reccomend wario ware and mario party 8. make sure to get 4 controlers
- The system currently doesn't offer any games that provide any good exercise. Granted, some of the games do require you to stand and move around a little bit, but not any amount that will increase your heart rate enough for a sustained period of time to do anything substantial. There is a game in development call Wii Fit. It will actually offer aerobics, Yoga, muscle conditioning, and other forms of "real" exercise. There is a projected release date of January 1, 2008 with a retail price of $69.99 which includes the Balance Board peripheral (see site in source). While this may be beneficial to your mother, it is quite an expensive solution considering it would be $250 for the console and $70 for the game. She can buy a $20 work out dvd and have the same effect for a lot less money. Or, she could just go for a walk...it's free.
