Which DDR (Dance Dance Revolution-Wii) mat/pad will best minimize the shaking in an upstairs apartment?

I live on the second floor of a relatively rickety 3 family home. We have lived there several years but have only even said hello to the neighbors 3-4 times over the years. In part I feel this is related to the fact that the walls and floors are QUITE thin and since we can hear all of their "personal business", we know they must also be able to hear ours. In the past, they have been overly loud and annoying and we have banged heavily on the floor until they quieted down (whether due to fighting, loud music, etc.) and they have done the same at times when we have been overly loud---like when I couldnt sleep and didnt realize my hammering at 3 AM would be something they could hear. Anyhow---I realize that this relationship is not the best, but, frankly, we like it this way and would rather it not change. ---BUT--- I just got DDR for the Wii and every time we have to hit 2 beats at once or even just shift body weight too quickly, the floor creaks and shakes the walls of the apartment. So which DDR pad or what kind of padding can we use to minimize this? I have tried putting a blanket under the mat but this actually makes the problems worse because you have to stomp down harder for your steps to count and there is less balance this way so we tend to trip up more and this just shakes the whole apartment. Any ideas how we can reduce the shaking? For what it maters, the flooring seems to be older wood (seems like it must just be plywood, but I assume it has to be asomethign stronger than that in reality) with very thin indoor/outdoor burber (sp?) "carpeting" over it...with maybe a quarter inch of flooring pad between the layers. Thanks for any help.

  1. They do sell those impact pads that look like a 2'x2' foam pad that connect together. Similar to the link below, but a little thicker. I think you will have issues regardless involving anything that requires you to jump on the floor. Perhaps Guitar Hero? It's basicly the same thing, just has a controller over a floor mat.....
