Could a wireless internet connection affect a mod chip in a Wii?

My boyfriend bought a Wii and had a guy attach the mod chip to the motherboard of the Wii so he could play backed up games. He has been able to play backed up games for nearly two months now on his Wii without issue. Recenly, he took his Wii to his father's house while we were out of town. His father has a wireless internet connection. We played Mario Party 8 (a purchased disk, not backed up) for about an hour. Later, his brother-in-law tried playing a backed up disk of The Godfather. The Wii didn't read it or any other game we tried. NOW THE WII WON'T READ ANY DISKS AT ALL! Not even the official Nintendo games I have purchased. Could the wireless connection affected the Wii? Having backed up disks of games you have purchased is perfectly legal, so I don't see how Nintendo could have "busted" him via the internet. (He has tried the install disk for the mod chip several times, and didn't need it right after the mod chip was installed) What could it be? A bad chip? This was an older version of the system. He bought it off his friend from work. He tried the mod chip on a new one and didn't work. Now he has 2 bad Wiis. This has to be the most stupid thing he has EVER DONE!

  1. The Chip is deffinatly broken hope you got warranty on it...
  2. Sounds to me like the person who installed the chip either sold you a dud which works temporarily by using the Wii's original software, what happens is when you go online with your Wii, the internal software updates automatically so you have the latest software, now the modchip may have been made to find an exploit, or sort of loop hole in the code of the original Wii software, but when you update the software, Nintendo may have patched this problem so people don't use modchips which they have a right to do. You might need to download a older version of the Wii software/Operating System, put it on a sd memory card and try booting the Wii using it and the mod chip which may be difficult as I don't know how it may be possible to boot the Wii using the memory card. Nintendo does not go around targetting specific people because they are not allowed to do this without suspicion so they send live updates to all Wii systems. I am sorry for this, try to return the mod chip or exchange it, also try it on another older Wii and I think it should work as long as it has not been updated. If you soldered the chip then it might be a hassel to get out but have the installer remove it. Good Luck.
  3. According to the instruction manuals, "Back-up or archival copies are not authorized and not neccesary to protect your software". Most likely, it updated while online or something and the was a update that fixes this problem. Try getting an older version of the system. Hope this helps!!!
  4. i have a wii connected to the internet permanently and i use wiikey modchip, no problems yet, i still have the latest firmware and i use the internet channel regularly so the problem probably is a bad instalation and when your boyfriend moved it from his house something could have been detached, i would check the instalation with an electrical tester, the person who installed it has to know or have one.... on the other hand, wii modchips are drive mods so in theory cannot be busted over the net
