Is it possible that Nintendo can shut Wii mod-chips by an update?
Public Comments
- It's possible but the catch is that it has to be an update, and it might not be legal for Nintendo to shut off the mod chips. Mod chips are legal, but playing copied games is illegal. MS prevents modded XBX and 360 from playing on XBL so it can detect modded systems, but MS can't shut it down because of some legal mumbo jumbo. I don't think Nintendo knows how to solve the software piracy problem. I forgot what the exact figure is but Nintendo said it's already lost several hundred million due to piracy.
- When you download an update it warns you that if you have mod chips then they might break the wii, so it might not happen intentionally by nintendo, but the coding will be changed. Just don't download the updates
