- you don't need to buy a modchip. you can use consolemodder.com, it's cheaper than a modchip and even more effective. You can play backups, downloaded games, and import games. I've done all 3 fine. Just make sure you buy good quality blank DVDs like sony or verbatim and set your burner to 4x
